We offer our sincere condolences to the World Federation of the Deaf

The director of Deaf Hope has learnt about the tragic passing of the human rights activist Elena Down. I remember her promoting several changes to the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, especially the parts concerning education, and her support and advocacy for sign language.

Dear Mr. President, I know how valuable Elena´s was work and how much she will be missed. A person like her at the position of human rights advocate at the WFD is sorely needed. The rights of the persons with disabilities must be driven forward despite certain political misunderstandings or ill will. Please allow us to express our sincere condolences. She will be remembered in our hearts.
